Hidden in the Hills - New Location
I am excited and happy to announce that I am RELOCATING to a NEW STUDIO, hosted by Lucy Dickens, an internationally known artist. As you may know, I have participated in Hidden in the Hills open studio tour for the past 22 years. Lucy Dickens Fine Art is a juried Studio Host at her gallery/studio in Carefree. Also joining Lucy Dickens (oil), is Joshua Dopp (glass and metal), and Jason Napier (bronze sculptures), at this prestigious studio on the tour.
I will be keeping you informed of the details over the next few months. The show is always 2 weekends, centering around Thanksgiving. Here is an introduction to my fellow artists and a small sampling of their work.
LUCY DICKENS
The elements in the environment—every leaf, animal, cloud—they, without question bend gently toward the light. So do I. It's with this notion that I collaborate with my environment to bring these spectacular scenes in nature to canvas. I am so much a part of my paintings, that the paintbrush is more or less an extension of my heart and mind. And this collaboration of the elements, me included, combines to transform a simple piece of canvas into an experience to share.
All these elements are intentional and it's how and why I create. It's all a part of my daily life, of every moment. It is experiencing, capturing, and sharing these moments wherever they may be. Being able to gaze into a scene and renew and recharge from it, and then bring it to someone else is a gift from God I don't take for granted. It's one of the reasons I spend time in that gaze as I know it's fleeting. The opportunity to experience and capture it will not last so I intentionally take it all in and then reach for my brushes to recreate the magic!
JASON NAPIER
“My intent is to 'wow' the viewer in hopes my wildlife sculptures, evoke an emotion or fond memory. Whether it's humor, excitement, romance or joy, these feelings are the highest of all compliments.”
Jason Napier's wildlife sculptures are uniquely recognizable, collected & revered around the globe. Always fashioned in his distinctive style that exudes motion and express the whimsical spirit of every subject. Each animal is enlivened with a rich & colorful patina finish which is another distinguishing feature of a Napier sculpture. This fanciful combination showcased within each piece, encourages lighthearted conversation from an array of viewers and prompts many smiles. Jason's creations can be found in a handful of galleries or you can find him alongside his wife Danielle participating at some of the Nations top fine art shows.
JOSHUA NOAH DOPP
30 + years ago the passion for glass started while studying art in Santa Barbara. Throughout this time Joshua has pushed boundaries of glass design & art, exhibiting around the world.
Joshua additionally shares his art with future generations, helping to cultivate their knowledge of art and skills in craftsmanship. With the use of his mobil glass studio the Highway Hotshop he travels around the South West teaching the next generation about the wonders of glass blowing.
Nature is the truest teacher of what we most desire. With colors that capture and arrest the eye, forms which remind us of a hopeful exuberant homecoming. Being drawn in to look, feel and to ask. Glass! Like magpies they come to see and find the twinkle of their own eye reflected.
